چکیده
Last-mile logistics is both a source and cause of problems in urban areas, especially related to traffic congestion, unsustainable delivery modes, limited parking availability. In this context, multiple sustainable solutions have been proposed. We focus on micro-depots (MDs), which can function as consolidation center collection-and-delivery point for business-to-consumer (B2C) small parcels. This paper presents new research idea that extends the existing MD solution by introducing concept shared network with parcel lockers. Such networks enable service providers (LSPs) and/or business partners use an while minimizing their individual costs optimizing space. present case studies such operating cities Helsinki Helmond. provide framework auxiliary businesses exploit structure offer services surrounding population. Finally, we define metrics evaluating success considering social, environmental economic objectives. The highlight complexity implementing solution; it requires stakeholders’ involvement collaboration. particular, deciding location critical phase, since local authorities own regulations, residents’ preferences are usually different than LSPs’ ones. Nevertheless, if these challenges overcome, last-mile has promising future.

New City Logistics Paradigm: From the “Last Mile” to the “Last 50 Miles” Sustainable Distribution
The distribution of goods in urban areas, together with private traffic flows, are among the main sources of energy consumption, air pollution and noise. As a consequence, in the 2000s, several EU cities started to implement logistical solutions for the sustainable city. In this context, this study addresses the implementation of a new eco-logistic system, which serves multiple adjacent cities ...

The next leap in the communications market may be the extension of optical technology to access networks. Advanced fibre optical access equipment has been developed in the last decade and today trial tests are on the way and insular deployment has begun. The access network, the last mile, has not encountered any major changes of technology for a century. However, current advancements in technol...

Traditional distribution power systems are facing numbers of changes. The major aspects that may influence the shape of the changes include: the connection of small scale renewable and advanced distributed energy resources, the deployment of demand side controls, and the supply of more heat and transport demands. But, because distribution systems have been designed and operated with very limite...
متن کاملLocating Self-Collection Points for Last-Mile Logistics Using Public Transport Data
Delivery failure and re-scheduling cause the delay of services and increase the operation costs for logistics companies. Setting up selfcollection points is an effective solution that is attracting attentions from many companies. One challenge for this model is how to choose the locations for self-collection points. In this work, we design a methodology for locating self-collection points. We c...

E-vehicles are expected to become increasingly important in the logistics sector. Global use of delivery vehicles with combustion motors causes a significant percentage of total emissions and is responsible for climate change, shortage of fossil fuels and pollution in urban areas. Simultaneously, cargo volumes are increasing, especially in urban regions due to for example e-commerce development...
